PRIVACY
LAST UPDATED · 30 JUL 2026
This policy covers the PetroCoordinates iOS app, web app, API, and petrocoordinates.com. It explains what data we handle, why we handle it, and the choices you have. We do not sell personal data, use it for advertising, or track you across other companies' apps and websites.
Data we handle
- Account data. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the account identifier, name, and email address that provider makes available. Apple may provide a private relay address. We use this data to create your account, secure your session, and associate your contributions and paid access with you.
- Purchase data. For App Store subscriptions, we receive signed transaction identifiers, the product purchased, subscription status, expiration date, and an app-specific account token. Apple processes the payment; we do not receive your card number or Apple Account password.
- Location and contribution data. The app accesses precise location only when you explicitly start a field capture. A submitted correction may include the coordinate, accuracy, capture time, app version, and evidence you choose to provide. The app does not collect location in the background. Optional visit history is private to your account.
- Your content. Saved wells and field notes may be stored on your device or in your account, depending on the feature you use. Community access notes and corrections are stored so they can be reviewed and, when accepted, improve the shared location layer.
- Operational data. Our hosting systems receive ordinary request data such as IP address, time, requested route, browser or app user-agent, and error details. We use it to deliver and secure the service and diagnose failures, not to build an advertising profile.
Website storage and analytics
The marketing site stores only your day/night preference under the localStorage key "theme", with the value "light" or "dark". The marketing site sets no advertising cookies and embeds no third-party analytics, fonts, iframes, pixels, or beacons.
How we use and share data
We use data to authenticate you, provide searches and saved content, process entitlement status, review community corrections, respond to support, prevent abuse, and operate the service. We share only what is needed with infrastructure providers that host the service and with Apple or Google when you use their sign-in or purchase systems. We may disclose information when legally required or to protect users and the service. We do not sell or rent personal data.
Community information
Public community surfaces use a pseudonymous display handle, not your name or email. Accepted correction coordinates and access knowledge may remain part of the shared record after account deletion, but the account link and device identifiers are removed and capture time is reduced to the calendar date. Confirmation reports and private visit history are deleted rather than anonymized.
Retention and deletion
We keep account data while your account exists and retain operational and support data only as long as needed for security, support, legal, and accounting obligations. You can permanently delete your account in the iOS app under Settings. Deletion removes private visits, favorites, notes, and account identity and anonymizes retained community evidence as described above. Deleting an account does not cancel an App Store subscription; manage that separately in your Apple Account subscription settings.
Your choices
You can use basic search and the converter without creating an account. You can decline location access and still use record search. You may sign out, remove saved content, or delete your account in the app. To ask for access, correction, or deletion help, email support@petrocoordinates.com.
Children
PetroCoordinates is a tool for oil and gas field work. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes
We will update the date above when this policy changes. Material changes will be communicated in the app or on this page. Questions: support@petrocoordinates.com.
